StartFragmentNew research has now highlighted the importance of engaging with older people and then guaranteeing they'll get the most suitable magnitude of care and assistance they really need. A new report, published by Age UK, found that a large number of older individuals seem to be dealing with a "double whammy" of issues, having to deal with debilitating isolation and furthermore deal with unmet care needs. The ability to access an array of services, either inside a care home or nearby in the community, is invariably an important aspect of ensuring that older people can live gratifying and engaging lives. Services which specialize in elderly care might make sure that elderly people have their physical and mental wellness requirements met, while also engaging with them in order to restrict any feelings of loneliness they might be living with.

The study provided by Age UK found those who have health care needs who aren't being given any support are nearly two-thirds more likely to experience feelings of loneliness in the past few days in comparison to somebody who is getting some degree of care or support. Charity director of Age UK Caroline Abrahams stated that: "It’s bad enough struggling due to a care need and going without support, now it turns out that an appreciable quantity of older people in this position are generally facing a “double whammy” because they are chronically lonely at the same time." Caroline Abrahams also said it is far more likely that lots of these types of elderly people live life by themselves coupled with quite isolating conditions, unable to contact family, close friends or even others who live nearby to get support if they need it. Ms Abrahams stated that the "overriding goal" of social care is always to satisfy someone's needs however for elderly people - who don't always have the option or capacity to step out of their home - this kind of care is generally "extremely valuable" as it might be the sole interaction they'll have all day. However, she asserted the system was in fact struggling to keep pace with the growing numbers of older people, ultimately causing many going without any type of basic support. The research indicates that this is exacerbating the sizeable problem of acute loneliness among older individuals too. As reported by the analysis, more than 300,000 older individuals across the country are experiencing loneliness as well as the added pressure of having care needs that are not being met. Studies show that isolation itself could have a substantial impact on an individuals well-being and health, causing them to more prone to sickness. This is why treating the issue wouldn't just enhance the standard of living for elderly people but will also lessen the financial impact on the healthcare system.EndFragment
